Addness MCP setup guide · Claude Code
Give Claude Code your team's goals
Claude Code is great at doing the work, but it starts every session without knowing why the work matters. Connect it to Addness and it reads the goal tree, today's to-dos and KPIs before it writes a line, then records what it finished on the same goal.
How to connect
The easiest way is to ask the AI itself to set it up. If it gets stuck, show it these steps or finish them yourself.
Set up Addness MCP (https://vt.api.addness.com/mcp).Approve the browser sign-in yourself when the AI reaches that step.
Add it to your user settings once, then use the same Addness connection in every project.
Add Addness MCP
Run this once in your terminal. --scope user makes the connection available across projects.
$claude mcp add --transport http --scope user addness https://vt.api.addness.com/mcpSign in to Addness
When your browser opens, authorize access with your Addness account.
$claude mcp login addnessCheck the connection
You're ready when addness appears in the list. You can also check it with /mcp inside Claude Code.

Copy any of these and send it as is. The AI reads your Addness goals, to-dos and KPIs before it acts.

Frequently asked questions
- Do I need an API key?
- No. You sign in to Addness in your browser and approve access (OAuth). Revoke the approval and the AI can no longer read Addness.
- Do I have to set it up in every project?
- No. Add it with --scope user and the same Addness connection works in every project. Check it with claude mcp list or /mcp inside Claude Code.
- What can the AI see in Addness?
- Only the goals, comments and deliverables you can see yourself. The AI works with the same permissions as the account you signed in with, never more.
- Can my team use different AI tools?
- Yes. Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and Claude Desktop all read and write the same Addness goal tree, so one person's AI can pick up exactly where another person's AI left off.
- Does it cost extra?
- The MCP connection itself is included in your Addness plan at no extra cost. Pro and higher plans on monthly billing come with a 7-day free trial (see the pricing page for who qualifies).
