Addness MCP setup guide · Cursor

Connect Cursor to your team's goals

Cursor Agent sees your code, not your plans. Add Addness as an MCP server and it can read the goal behind the change, check today's to-dos and record finished work on the goal, without leaving the editor.

How to connect

The easiest way is to ask the AI itself to set it up. If it gets stuck, show it these steps or finish them yourself.

Set up Addness MCP (https://vt.api.addness.com/mcp).

Approve the browser sign-in yourself when the AI reaches that step.

Add it with one click, then sign in to Addness in your browser — no API key needed.

1

Add it to Cursor with one click

The button opens Cursor with an addness install prompt. Select Install.

Add to Cursor
2

If it doesn't open, add it to mcp.json manually

Open ~/.cursor/mcp.json and add this configuration. If you already have servers, add only the addness entry.

Sign in with your browser

Select Connect on addness under Settings → Tools & MCP and authorize with your Addness account. Cursor Agent can then use the Addness tools.

What to ask once connected

Copy any of these and send it as is. The AI reads your Addness goals, to-dos and KPIs before it acts.

Start from a goal

Read the Addness goal for this ticket and its parent goals, then outline the changes you will make.
Split this goal into child goals in Addness, one for each pull request.
Show me my Addness goals that are due this week and still open.

Daily work

Pick the most important to-do for today from Addness and start on it.
When the change is done, add the pull request as a deliverable on the goal and mark it complete.
Post a comment on the goal with what you changed and anything I still need to review.

KPIs and reporting

Read the KPI tree in Addness and tell me which goal is linked to the metric we are missing most.
Find goals with no activity in the last week and summarize where each one stands.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an API key?
No. You sign in to Addness in your browser and approve access (OAuth). Revoke the approval and the AI can no longer read Addness.
Where do I sign in after adding it?
Open Settings → Tools & MCP in Cursor, select Connect on addness and approve access with your Addness account. Cursor Agent can then use the Addness tools.
What can the AI see in Addness?
Only the goals, comments and deliverables you can see yourself. The AI works with the same permissions as the account you signed in with, never more.
Can my team use different AI tools?
Yes. Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and Claude Desktop all read and write the same Addness goal tree, so one person's AI can pick up exactly where another person's AI left off.
Does it cost extra?
The MCP connection itself is included in your Addness plan at no extra cost. Pro and higher plans on monthly billing come with a 7-day free trial (see the pricing page for who qualifies).

Hand your goals to AI

A 7-day free trial is available for Pro or higher on monthly billing (see the pricing page for who qualifies). Starter has no trial and charges $4.99 per person per month upon sign-up. Create a goal, connect your AI, and ask it to move the work forward. The AI does the work; you review the results and decide what comes next.
